As with everything else, the right bedding is important for the health of your Teddy Bear Guinea Pigs. should be kept in moderate temperatures between 68° and 72° Fahrenheit. It is important that they receive between 14 and 16 hours a day, and direct sunlight should be avoided. If you are unable to provide the required amount of light, artificial light should be considered.

Bedding should be absorbent and safe for the Guinea Pig to eat.

Here is a list of good bedding choices.

Pine or Fir Wood Shavings- kiln dried.

Straw- although this will not absorb as well it does provide warmth.

Pelleted bedding

Strips of OLD Newspaper -if nothing else is available, NOTE** Fresh newsprint is Toxic to Guinea Pigs.

Bedding Specifically made for Guinea Pigs available at your local pet store.

AVOID: Cat Litter, Raw Pine, Raw Cedar, and Sawdust.

The floor of the cage should contain 1 to 2 inches of bedding material. Hay Grass can be added as a layer, which will keep the bedding fresher longer, and give the Teddy Bear something to chew on.

Bedding will become wet and therefore unsafe for your Teddy Bear Guinea Pig if left for too many days. Be sure to change it out every 2 to 3 days to prevent disease and ensure a healthy Guinea Pig.

The right housing will make for a happy Teddy Bear Guinea Pig. The floor of the housing should be smooth, avoid wire, which can cause harm to their feet and nails. The cage should be large, recommended at 7 sq. ft. for one guinea pig, and 2 to 4 sq. ft. for each additional pig. Adequate space is healthier and gives the guinea pig room to exercise and explore.

Teddy Bear Guinea Pigs should not be housed with unrelated species like rabbits, rats, mice or hamsters. They should either be kept by themselves or in a colony.

When keeping a colony, boy (boar) Guinea Pigs, should either be kept together if raised together. Never introduce a new Boar to a colony of Boars, as a fight among them will occur. Girl (Sows) Guinea Pigs will not usually fit if they are introduced to a new colony, but remain watchful, as injuries may occur from small fighting.

The Guinea Pig should be kept indoors with moderate temperatures between 68° and 72° Fahrenheit. It is important that they receive between 14 and 16 hours a day, and direct sunlight should be avoided. If you are unable to provide the required amount of light, artificial light should be considered.

Teddy Bear Guinea Pigs are very sociable inquisitive creatures. Place them where the majority of the activity occurs in the home. They will enjoy watching what you are doing, making them happier and more sociable.

Along with a smooth floor, good bedding, fresh food and vegetables, your Teddy Bear Guinea Pig will also enjoy a small house he can hide in, as well as toys with bells. Be sure that the toys are non-toxic, like the ones available for cats and birds.
